Hi Guys,

Been at the marina this morning to find that the recent cold weather we have been having has frozen the waters in the marina. The marina staff have been doing their best at breaking the ice between A, B & C leg today and as the cold weather continues it may freeze again.

Hi John

I was up yesterday just to check my engine and cabin heating. I was pleased to see that the pontoons were clear of snow and surprised that there was no snow on the canopies.

The marina guys have done a good job in difficult weather.

Indeed they have done a great job, I was up on New years day about 09.30 to check on the boat and heaters and Colin and one of the guys were out in Celtic Warrier breaking the ice round all the boats.

As you say no snow on the canopies and pontoons all clear.

Keep up the great work guys if you are reading this!

Agree the marina staff are doing an excellent job on making sure the pontoons are gritted and breaking the ice that forms in the marina.

Increased the thermostats by a few degrees in the cabin and engine bay, so heating kicks in early.

Forecast for the rest of the week is still to remain very cold. Just seen on the news Lake of Montieth near Aberfolyle has frozen over so the locals are enjoying curling and skating.

Wonder how long it would take for Loch Lomond to freeze over if the extreme cold weather continues?

Just back from the marina, was down installing a new heater in the cabin after finding the kettle water frozen twice now, was suprised to see so much ice, the water is prety frozen arround about 90% of the boats and into the shore line, pontoons covered in snow but not icy or slippery good footing, i wonder just how bad this will get as we have at least another week of the cold snap

Guess i can answer my last post its stil frozen, got email from Colin at the marina this morning, cut and paste below

"The Loch is still frozen as the temperature remains below 0’C most nights and the repairs are continuing to the fuel station"

What happened to the fuel station??

Oh and just checking forum is still alive, no posts for about 9 days, guess everyone is in hibernation from the cold then eh, lol!

I have been at the marina since Wednesday night staying onboard. It was very cold on Wednesday night with a heavy frost. I had to put the heating on at about 2 am and turn the electric blanket on a coupke of clicks to keep me cozy.

Anyway the marina has been defrosting today with the ice flow completely gone between A and B lege. same with B and C leg. Still some thin ice at shore side of C leg upto the slipway. The fuel dock still has some ice near by and repairs are on going as a construction crew are starting on repairs. The Loch is now almost ice free apart from Lomond shores and Balloch castle side where ice is still present, but you can gain access to the Leven as Sweeney cruises have been operating as normal. Whilst on the Loch care must still be taken as the possibility of some thick sheets of ice still floating around. It has been wet with rain today and a northerly wind aiding the melting of ice . Tonight it is mild and wet at the marina so I may aswell stay until the weekend and hope to take me boat out for the first time this season. Fresh water is available now so topping up the pot water tanks should not be an issue.

Hope this helps if anybody should turn up this weekend.

The marina now have a new rib to play with.
