Is it too early to start a thread about the simple courtesy's that bug you at the marina ?

Like members not returning trollys and stuff.

As some of you who see what i post on the BOC you know i'm up for a laugh and hate to be cast as a moaner but not all the problems up here are the fault of the management.

I would like to hear simple things that the members could do to help....... make this a better place for you and for me and the entire human ra................god nearly broke into a michael jackson song there Shocked

I dont think it is ever too early to have a debate on common courtesy! Shocked

While the trolly situation can be a problem, (although I understand why this occurs), I believe there are greater menaces in the Marina.

1. The inability to close the Security Gate. It appears to me that some members and their guests find it too difficult to wait that extra
second to ensure it is closed. While we all are annoyed about the thefts that have occurred, ( I being a victim along with others),
we cannot complain when the basic security is being overlooked. I realise the thefts occurred from the water, however we are
iviting disaster by leaving this gate open!

2. The Members washrooms & Toilets at the rear of the Boat House. In my opinioin a nice facility to have, however I am getting tired
of pulling grass and mud out of the sinks before utilising the facility. While I understand we are "sharing" with the golfers, it would
be nice for a club, shoe cleaning facility outside of the washrooms rather than inside! Failing that just the common courtesy of
cleaning up after your shoes are shining!

Other than that I find the experience from the members perspective fantastic. A great bunch, the ones i have met so far. All very friendly and willing to help / advise!

Regards,

Mick

Hi Mick

I agree on both your points its the small things that can make everyone's experience that little bit better.

I had to close the gate twice this weekend and noticed that a couple were waiting on me coming up the ramp. They asked me if it was ok to go down, when i asked what boat they were going to they fessed up about being guests and just wanting to go for a look. I said it was members only ,you kina feel like a killjoy as they looked respectible but I pointed them to the marina office to let them deal with it.

As for the trolleys, I walked up to the end of B leg yesterday about 12pm and found a trolley with the remnants of a carryout and empty beer cans lying next to the " Eyesore", it had obviously been there overnight and all the boats were berthed up and at least 3 occupied. We went out until 5pm and it was still there when we returned.

Ok so nobody had a go at this one so I might as well.

Why is it that every time I visit the marina there are some lumpy cars in the disabled bays with no stickers.

There are only two bays and usually plenty of spaces in the Somme.............sorry crater filled car park.

Although I know the carpark needs some work before you ruin your best Jimmy chu's think how difficult it is for disabled people to navigate through it because someone, not nessisarily marina members, cant be bothered to walk 25 yards more.

Note :-

Sorry "Lumpy" is motortrade speak for large executive type cars or 4x4's of which very few are used by disabled drivers.

Ok lumpy cars in the Disabled parking space. Well for one I do have the right to park in a disabled bay as my daughter is disabled and we only use the card when my daughter is with us. Yes I agree there are some people who use the disabled spaces for convenience parking and no disabled card displayed as I have seen contractors do as well and hotel cars. And be very careful when referring to a 4x4 as the disabled badge is diplayed.

Hi John

I wasn't refering at all to cars WITH disabled stickers as they have a right to be there whether it is carrying a passenger or the driver himself is of no issue to me as long as they have a badge but some people are taking the p@#s. Ther must have been occasions when you have arrived only to find some lazy B........ has parked in a bay while eating lunch.

If someone can walk unaided to their boat on C-leg then they can walk the extra few yards from the carpark.

My reference to Lumpy cars was a direct translation of what we in the trade refer to, and incorporates, Large engined cars, large 4x4's, fully loaded and sports cars and was not directed at any particular car or person. Its just a general term we use and that's why I qualified it.

I sometimes arrive in my own 4x4 when my other toy needs a rest.

Paul,

No offence taken I understand where you were coming from. Yes it is frustrating as sometimes my wife and will arrive with 2 cars and as she has my daughter she will park at the disable space leaving myself to park else where. But we do see customers to the Boathouse who park in the disabled space most of the night with no disabled badge. I even questioned a contractor who parked his van in the disable space and he replied he got permission from the Boathouse to park. I think not.

The main carpark has had the pot holes filled so many times you would think the car park would be Tarmac by now. Also their is a serious shortage of parking around the marina and also at the hotel that it must be a nightmare arriving with a boat in tow via the hotel road. During the golf it was torcher to get a parking space that I arrived on the Thursday to ensure a space in the carpark. Hopefully sometime in the future they may resolve the issue and give us descent parking maybe for Marina members only with a barrier as they do at other marina's.

John

Paul

I also am not offended & I drive a VERY large exec car & I do use the space provided for badge holders like my wife ( Badge always displayed ).

Yes she can walk down the jetty but the badge means you are less abled than most & not a drooling vegetable.

I also agree with your point that some vehicles dont display or have a false badge & of course you quite often find a CH Vehicle from the big house parked in one of these slots.

As for the gorges in the undersized car park I have noticed they are throwing in boats & trailers to try & fill them.
