Free boat and safety event this weekend
Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park have teamed up with Cameron House for a free event this weekend to help people enjoy Loch Lomond safely and responsibly. If you’re interested in sailing, cruising, kayaking, PWCs (Jet-skis) or water skiing, this event includes advice from the RNLI, Royal Yachting Association Scotland , Loch Lomond Rescue boat, National Park rangers , SEPA and The Green Blue
Over the two days, you can call in to the lifejacket clinic with the RNLI, get advice and training on best boat practice with RYAS, find out how to reduce chemicals in the water with SEPA, learn about how to maintain your boat engine and find out more about the Loch Lomond Byelaw consultation.
The event will be held at Cameron House marina on Saturday and Sunday 16 – 17 June, 10 am to 5pm.
Speaking about the event, National Park ranger Leigh Hamilton said: “This two day event is open to anyone with an interest in using the water. We’ve teamed up with a number of organisations to help people be safe out there and enjoy this fantastic National Park. Taking the right measures before you set off on the water means you can make the most of your day out without any incident. Pop along to the marina, there will be lots to do for the whole family.”
James Stuart from the RYA Scotland added: “Getting out on the water is great fun. The waters of Loch Lomond offer an excellent experience, stunning views, interesting places to visit and great waters to enjoy. It really is important though that you think before heading out – the water can also be unforgiving. Join us at this event and we’ll give you advice about how to make the most out of your trip.”
Jim Foster from RNLI spoke about the lifejacket clinic: “You carry a lifejacket but do you know how to fit and adjust it properly, what you can add to it and how to perform simple maintenance checks? Come along to our lifejacket clinic where the RNLI’s trained and experienced team of lifejacket demonstrators will be armed with the equipment and knowledge to show you the importance of your lifejackets. This practical and interactive demonstration highlights one of the most important pieces of safety kit and how to get the most from it. ”
